Ibis Munich City West – Hotel Review

Ibis Munich City West Westendstr. 181, Sendling – Westpark, 80686 Munich, Germany

I am always hesitant to write a review about an Ibis because I haven’t really met an Ibis that I hated.  The Ibis Munich City West is no exception. Ibis is kind of like my old stand-by.  A cheap to mid-priced hotel, with comfy beds, a clean and quiet room you can count on. Albeit Ibis’ does have it’s trade-offs, like TINY bathrooms, but they are adequate.  Really how much space do you need in the bathroom anyway?

The Ibis Munich City West was no exception to the usual comfort you would expect. The hotel’s located West of the city center and is about a 10 minute U-Bahn ride to the stop. Take the U5 and get off on Westendstraße. Once you exit the train station you are literally greeted by the Ibis. It is a short walk up the stairs and the Ibis is literally right in front of you. It is such a convenient location easily connected to the attractions of Munich.

The hotel is nicely appointed; the lobby is clean and large with a spacious dining room and bar on the main level just beyond the lobby. The lobby itself has several computers with printers that guests are welcome to use. The desk staff was friendly. There was actually a very large group checking in ahead of us which caused somewhat of a delay, however, the front desk associated thanked us for waiting and our check in went quickly.

Again, the room is your typical Ibis room…small but adequate. I always find the Ibis beds particularly comfortable compared to a lot of the other hotel beds throughout Germany. We booked a 1 double bedroom which comes with free Wifi, a/c, and is soundproofed. I really believe they are soundproofed too because I never hear any other guests when in my room. It is almost like once you shut your door you are in your own little hotel room world.

Breakfast is not usually included in the price of the room at Ibis.  However, you can pay for it ahead of time at booking. At this particular Ibis hotel, it was 10 euros per person which is a little on the spendy side. We did have breakfast there on the morning of our departure because it was convenient otherwise I would suggest saving your money and going into town and having a traditional breakfast of Weisswurst and pretzels. Their breakfast buffet had plenty of choices but was your typical German breakfast buffet bread, cheeses, cold cuts, cereals, Nutella, etc. Nothing special but filling and adequate. The breakfast area also doubles as a restaurant during the evening.

There is actually a gas station right next to the hotel.  My tip would be for cheap snacks or drinks to skip the hotel restaurant and bar and go next door to the gas station where there are much cheaper to buy.

Bottom Line – Ibis Munich City West:

It is your typical Ibis…a great budget hotel that is dependable and clean. If you don’t mind staying out of the hustle and bustle of downtown Munich it is just a short U-Bahn ride which makes it convenient. Considering hotels in Munich are expensive, if you book in advance you can get a pretty decent rate.
